WITHINBUCKSSoccer commentator John Motson, who was unable to separate his animated voice from many of the sport's most important moments during his 50 years with the BBC, died Thursday.

The report did not specify the cause or place of death.

The network entrusted Mosson, who retired in 2018, with top games, including 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships, and 29 FA Cup finals. He also provided analysis for the BBC's weekly highlights program 'Match of the Day'.

"John Motson was the voice of a football generation," said BBC Executive Director Tim Davey in a statement, adding: "Like all the greats behind the mic, John was the right fit for everyone. he added. Big moment.

His love of football grew after his father, a Methodist minister, took him to a game. According to his 2008 article in The Independent, he dreamed of becoming a newspaper reporter and first worked for the weekly magazine Burnett after leaving school at the age of 16. Sheffield began working for his Morning Telegraph.

He was chosen to participate in an experiment that relied on a letterpress reporter for a local radio station. After hearing his work on the radio, an editor told him:

He found success on local radio and in 1968 he joined the BBC before appearing in 'Match of the Day' in 1971.

In 1989, he was at Hillsborough Stadium when police negligence and overcrowding killed 97 Liverpool fans of his team. The tragedy that injured more than 700 fans still makes headlines decades later.

For many British football fans, the news of his death affected Cole's fond memories of a particular match.

According to the BBC, Mr. Motson was bequeathed to his wife Anne and his son Frederick.
